Wyndham Resort Torquay review – Celebrating our 4 year anniversary

Kayleigh and I recently celebrated the anniversary of the date our relationship began. To celebrate our milestone we spent one night away from Melbourne, down at the beautiful beachside town of Torquay. Our choice of accommodation was a romantic and luxurious beachside resort, the Wyndham Resort. We had an amazing time together and we wanted to share our thoughts of the stay with a Wyndham Resort Torquay review post.

Where to go for our anniversary?

Four years ago, Kayleigh and I officially started dating. For our anniversary we wanted to go somewhere we could escape from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne. After a few hours of searching online for romantic getaways, we had chosen where we were going to stay. To celebrate the occasion we booked a room at the Wyndham Resort Torquay. Torquay is the first town on the Great Ocean Road, only an hour and a half from home. We have driven along the Great Ocean Road a few times, but we had never spent more than a few hours in Torquay. Torquay was the perfect beachside town for us to wind down and relax, take in some much-needed sunshine and forget about the worries and stress of everyday life and work.

Checking into the Wyndham Resort Torquay

We originally booked a double room at the Wyndham Resort Torquay, with a resort view. Upon arrival, we were unexpectedly treated to a room upgrade, a king room with a balcony and a pool view. But that was not the only surprise. We were also given a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc.

Before checking in to the hotel in the afternoon we had a morning coffee and breakfast at our favourite Melbourne cafe, Campos, Carlton. When we arrived in Torquay we still had a few hours before check in, so we ordered a halloumi vegetable burger each and a share plate of fries at The Stoop. After the amazing lunch, we took a stroll along the beach and then drove to nearby Queenscliff and Barwon Heads.

Wyndham Resort Torquay review

Upon arriving back in Torquay it was extremely easy to find the resort and we were amazed at the location. The Wyndham Resort Torquay is right across the road from the beach and a short walk to the town centre. The entrance to the resort is really inviting, it had a very open and warm atmosphere. The front office staff were quick to serve us and the check in process was an absolute breeze. The receptionists were very knowledgable of the local area, they gave us a map, marked out the must-see places and gave us multiple restaurant recommendations.

Before we even mentioned the reason for our stay we were informed of the room upgrade, just a gesture of kindness we really appreciated. The staff asked us questions, wanting to get to know us and proceeded to ask us if we were interested in attending a sales meeting, the following morning, for 90 minutes, with a $100 rebate reward voucher for attending.

Checking Out of the Wyndham Resort Torquay

We checked out of the Wyndham the following day and were delighted at the check out process. Checking out was even easier than checking in. I took the two room keys we were given back to reception. A kind, young lady whose face you could not wipe a smile off was at the desk. She accepted the keys, asked us how the stay was and said that was all. Within seconds we were out of the resort and free to see more of Torquay.

Parking at the Wyndham Resort Torquay

Parking at the Wyndham Resort Torquay was really easy and best of all, it was also totally free. With a tap of our room key we drove into the underground, guests only, resort car-park and could choose whichever spot was available. Luckily for us, the car-park was nearly empty.

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Timeshare sales meeting

Upon arrival at the resort, we agreed to attend the sales meeting that the receptionists told us about, unaware of what it was really for. Honestly, we were just interested in receiving the $100 rebate reward voucher. The meeting was a sales pitch to buy into Wyndham Vacation Resorts timeshares. We found the concept pretty interesting, but we had no intentions of buying into it. We wanted to find out more information about the scheme. At the end of the presentation, we walked away from some pretty aggressive and persistent salespeople. They were noticeably annoyed at our refusal to invest. But, for a 90-minute sales pitch, we made $100. That money paid for our breakfast immediately after and also for our dinner later that night.

Before we headed home to Melbourne

After the sales meeting and after checking out, the first real agenda of the day was a big breakfast and coffee. One of the recommendations from the receptionists was the Bombardos cafe, right across from the beautiful Torquay beachfront. We were treated to some amazing spring weather while we ate our gourmet breakfast and sipped on delicious cappuccinos. I would highly recommend this small cafe, the food and drinks were quick to come out and they were exceptional in quality and taste.

Who is this resort for?

On a normal holiday, we wouldn’t usually stay in a place like this. But, for such a special celebration we wanted to treat ourselves. With that being said, we think this resort is best suited for those looking for a romantic getaway. The resort has great facilities and is located in a quieter area of Torquay. Here you can relax and just enjoy the time and company of your partner. However, Wyndham does offer bigger rooms for families.

When is the best time to go?

We knew that the school holidays were coming up so we planned our getaway a few weeks in advance. We decided to make our stay a week before the holidays began to beat the crowds of holidaying families. Our stay was also planned so we would celebrate our anniversary a week before our actual anniversary date. The reservation was booked for a Friday night, in an off-peak season. We knew the crowds would be small in Torquay on Friday because we knew everyone would make their way down the following day.

In Conclusion

We would highly recommend staying at the Wyndham Resort Torquay, this is an inviting place, set in a beautiful beach town location with everything you need for a perfect getaway within close proximity.

Thanks so much for reading about our anniversary and we hope you enjoyed reading this Wyndham Resort Torquay review. Have you stayed at this resort? How was your experience?
